There was a shinsa (promotion test) at Wilson Park, Torrance, CA. Congratulations to Stan and Billy for passing 2-dan and Shodan (1-dan), respectively. Also, some of our children were promoted to 5 & 6-kyu. We are very glad to hear that all PCI members did well at this shinsa, including one new 4-dan sensei from Arizona!
Yamasaki sensei (5 dan, Pasadena Kendo Dojo) visited our dojo again from LA. This is probably his 5th or 6th visit (we lost counts!). We had great practices with him, and we appreciate his support for our dojo and instructions. Thank you, Yamasaki sensei!
Today, there was a funeral for Eugene & Yuri's mother, Ms. Eung Jung Lee. Below is a statement from the club, which we read at today's keiko:
----------
Dear Eugene and Yuri’s mother, Ms. Eung Jung Lee,
We are all shocked and saddened to hear your sudden death. Thank you for being a member of the Las Vegas Kendo Club over the past year or so, and bringing your children to our practices every week. You were a very dedicated mother, and you watched our practice every time until Eugene finished the keiko in the adult class at 9 o'clock, even when you were exhausted from your daytime work. We respect your dedication to the education of your children, and the dedication to kendo as well. Thank you for bringing a warm atmosphere to our club. Your presence will not be forgotten in our club, and we would like to dedicate tonight’s practice to you. May you rest in peace. And since Ms. Lee were a Christian, let us all say Amen.
-----------
Dear Eugene and Yuri,
The relationship that you and your mother have nurtured over the past year with our club is forever, and you two are always welcome to participate our keiko anytime in the future. Although we do not know yet whether you will stay in Las Vegas or not, we hope you will follow the kendo principles that you have learned at our dojo, and live strong. May kendo spirit be with you wherever you will be.
